So what have you heard?

#1. Macs cost more than PC's.
While you can find very cheap Windows PCs for $350, you get what you pay for. They come with second-rate processors and crippled versions of Windows. All Macs come with the full featured version of the operating system, Intel's first-rate processors, and full versions of great software. In total cost of ownership studies, Macs routinely come out as being cheaper over the life of the computer. Macs usually have a longer productive life, they need servicing less often, and they don't require the ongoing costs for virus, spyware, and malware protection software and subscriptions.

#2. Macs are just for artists.
While artists have long favored Macs, they aren't designed for artists. It probably has to do with the ease of use of Macs and the fact that you don't have to be an engineer to figure them out. You'll find Macs everywhere these days, from businesses to classrooms and from scientific labs to homes. Recently, in a 3 month study, Apple laptops were 17% of all laptops sold in the US.

#3. Macs don't work well in the Windows world.

Macs use computer standards that make them easy to connect to Windows networks, WiFi hotspots, as well as open pictures and documents, play music, and email with Windows users. Microsoft makes a version of its Office suite of programs for Macs so you can trade your Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents with Windows based colleagues and friends. There are some specialty or proprietary programs that don't have Mac versions. In these cases you can load Windows XP or Vista on your Mac and install and use those programs there. You can have the best of both worlds in one machine.
